PO Joseph of the Penguins and Mathieu Joseph of the Sens leave the ice together

Penguins defenseman PO Joseph and his older brother Mathieu Joseph, a Senators forward, fulfilled a childhood dream when they met for the first time in the NHL Friday night in Pittsburgh.

Neither player scored in Pittsburgh’s 4-1 victory, but they scored together when they fired coincident penalties with a high stick while their parents, Frantzi Joseph and France Taillon, watched from the stands.

PO Joseph shyly admitted his brother probably didn’t deserve a penalty, admitting he may have accidentally gotten high.

“I don’t know if they thought it was going to be funny or something like we were both going to get a penalty at the same time,” Mathieu Joseph said. “But things happen. I’m sure my parents had a good laugh about it, but I didn’t think it was funny.”

Their parents certainly had a good laugh, as the video shows after it happened.

It is not the first time that two brothers have received penalties in the same match.

In 1997, Keith and Wayne Primeau got into a fight at a Buffalo Sabers-Hartford Whalers game in Connecticut and went to the box.

And in 1992, Brent and Rich Sutter each had unsportsmanlike conduct in the second period, then gave each other brutal penalties in the third during a Chicago Blackhawks-St. Louis Blues game.
