Daniel Jones wants the Giants. And the Giants want Daniel Jones.
A day after the upcoming free agent quarterback said he “loves this place” and wants to stay with the team, Giants general manager Joe Schoen said Monday that the he organization wanted to keep the former first-round pick.
“We would like Daniel to be here,” Schoen said. “He said it yesterday, there is a commercial side, but it feels like Daniel has played well this season. He did everything we asked him to do. Again, there is a business side, we haven’t gone down that road yet. We still have to have our meetings with our staff on the weekend and we will develop an off-season plan. We haven’t had those meetings yet, but we would like Daniel Jones to come back.
Jones, 25, had a career year with the Giants in his fourth season, throwing for 3,205 yards and 15 touchdowns against five interceptions while completing 67.2 percent of his passes. He also set career highs with 120 carries, 708 rushing yards and seven rushing touchdowns.
The Giants turned down Jones’ fifth-year option last offseason.
“He’s done a really good job with operating and executing our offense,” head coach Brian Daboll said Monday. “He’s made progress in a lot of different areas.”
