Charles Omenihu of the San Francisco 49ers arrested for domestic violence in San Jose: police

SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) — San Francisco 49ers defensive lineman Charles Omenihu has been arrested for an allegation of domestic violence in San Jose, police said Tuesday.

On Jan. 23, officers responded to the 300 block of Santana Row to investigate an incident of domestic violence, according to a police news release.

Officials say a woman called to report her boyfriend, Omenihu, pushed her to the ground during an argument. She complained of pain in her arm, police said, but there was no visible injury and she refused medical treatment when investigated.

Officers contacted Omenihu at the scene. He made a statement and cooperated with officers.

He was later arrested on a domestic violence charge and served with a restraining order by investigators. It was not considered a criminal arrest.

“There are many different factors,” the San Jose Police Department sergeant said. Christian Camarillo explained. “Some of them include, what is the relationship, do they live together, do they have children together. What classified this as a misdemeanor and not a felony is that there was no of visible injury, there was a simple complaint of pain.”

Omenihu was jailed at Santa Clara County Main Jail for misdemeanor domestic violence, but has since posted bond and is no longer in custody.

The case will go to the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office for possible charges.

A fifth-round pick in 2019, Omenihu was part of the Niners’ defensive line rotation in their playoff series, recording a sack in the win over the Seattle Seahawks in the Wild Card Round.

ABC7 News has contacted the 49ers about Omenihu’s arrest. They said: “We are aware of the matter involving Charles Omenihu and are in the process of gathering further information. “

We also reached out to Omenihu’s sales and marketing contact, Rey Soto, on Tuesday morning.

He told us via an Instagram message that he intended to clear things up and clear up the story, but we didn’t hear back after that.

“This investigation just started yesterday,” the sergeant said. Camarillo said. “This will move on to our Domestic Violence Unit where detectives and investigators will continue the case. This case will be presented to the Santa Clara County District Attorney and they will make the final decision on whether or not to file charges against Mr. Omenihou.”

We have been in contact with the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office who told us that no charges are expected to be filed on Tuesday.
